Firearm seized after domestic related assault; two charged in Lakemba

Police have charged two men after a man was assaulted and a firearm produced during a domestic related dispute in Sydney’s south west yesterday.

About 4pm (Thursday 30 April 2020), two men, accompanied by a third, attended a home on Wangee Road, Lakemba, and allegedly assaulted a 59-year-old man and threatened others before producing a firearm during a family dispute.

The men ran off, pursued by family members and neighbours before officers from Campsie Police Area Command attended and arrested the two men, aged 28 and 35.

With the assistance of the Dog Unit and Public Order and Riot Squad, a third man, aged 31, was arrested on Punchbowl Road.

A firearm was recovered in nearby bushes after being discarded.

Both men were taken to Campsie Station, before the younger man was transferred to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

He has since been charged with three counts of common assault (DV), possess loaded firearm public place, possess unauthorised pistol, possess unregistered firearm-pistol, not keep firearm safely-pistol, armed with intent commit indictable offence, enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence, two counts of stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

The older man was charged with possess loaded firearm public place, possess unauthorised pistol, possess unregistered firearm-pistol, not keep firearm safely-pistol, armed with intent commit indictable offence, enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

Both men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 1 May 2020).

The third man was also taken to Campsie Police Station before being released without charge.
