First 5 Forever activity makes splash on Strand

Immerse your children in the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef this month at the One Remarkable Reef Story Walk on The Strand.

The Story Walk at the fenced toddler park next to The Strand Waterpark is an interactive activity for children to do with their parents and guardians during the Easter school holidays and through the rest of the month.

Each page of the book is attached to the park’s fence, with children encouraged to count from one to ten while learning about the Great Barrier Reef’s most threatened creatures.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the activity was in line with the First 5 Forever philosophy.

“First 5 Forever encourages children and families to talk, sing, play and read together. By putting an interactive Story Walk by play areas, we’re making it easier for families to incorporate some reading into playtime,” Cr Greaney said.

“It’s never too early or too late to talk, play, read and sing with your child, so whether you have a new bub or an energetic preppy, you can head down to the playground for a walk, a play and a read of One Remarkable Reef.

“If your kids are keen readers, why not head to any of our Townsville CityLibraries branches to collect an activity pack before heading down? Each pack gives kids an opportunity to explore the story further as they move from page to page of the book.”
