Five arrested after stolen car driven dangerously in St Albans

Police have arrested five people after a vehicle was driven dangerously in Melbourne’s north overnight.

Police observed the black Mercedes travelling at a fast rate of speed in the vicinity of Jefferson Street in St Albans about 3am on Tuesday, 17 January.

The Air Wing followed the vehicle and units on the ground attempted to intercept it but the driver sped off.

The vehicle continued to drive at speeds up to 160km/h in the St Albans area before it was dumped in Gumtree Court.

The driver and passenger were seen to enter a Nissan X-Trail.

Responding police converge and arrested five occupants of the Nissan X-Trail.

A search of the Mercedes located a machete and other weapons which were subsequently seized.

A 20-year-old Plumpton man, identified as the alleged driver of the Mercedes, has been charged with driving and weapons offences.

He has been remanded to face court later today.

A 19-year-old Keilor Downs man, identified as the alleged passenger from the Mercedes, has been released pending further enquiries.

Three occupants of the Nissan X-Trail, a 22-year-old Sunbury man, 19-year-old Kings Park man and 21-year-old Clyde North man has been released pending further enquiries.
