Flood Watch current as parts of Tasmania face wet and windy Sunday

BOM

Issued: 4:30pm AEST on Friday 12 August 2022

Tasmania’s eastern and southern regions are forecast to have wet and windy conditions on Sunday due to a low-pressure system expected near the east or northeast of Tasmania.

The forecast on Sunday is for 24-hour rainfall totals of 30-50 mm with isolated higher falls possible, particularly on elevated ground. The focus of the heaviest rainfall will be around the southeast.

With catchments already relatively wet, rivers are likely to be responsive to any amount of rainfall and a Flood Watch has been issued for parts of eastern and southern Tasmania.

Minor flooding is expected in the Flood Watch area with a chance of isolated moderate flooding.

A Road Weather Alert for reduced visibility in heavy rain could be issued on Sunday.

Strong south-easterly winds are also likely on Sunday with a slight chance of damaging winds.

The Bureau continues to monitor the positioning of the low-pressure system.

Conditions are expected to ease on Monday.

Communities are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings via the Bureau’s website and BOM weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.
