Flu vaccine now available in NT

NT Government

Territorians over the age of six months can now receive their 2023 influenza (flu) vaccine.

The flu vaccination can be accessed from GPs, pharmacies or health clinics, including remote clinics.

By getting the flu vaccine, Territorians can protect themselves from getting sick and giving the flu to others, helping to keep the community safe.

For more than 100,000 Territorians who are on the National Immunisation Program (NIP), the flu vaccine is free. People who are not eligible to receive a free flu vaccination can purchase one from a vaccine provider, such as a GP or pharmacy.

Flu vaccination is recommended between April and June as the NT heads towards the dry season, or winter. During this period, flu case numbers peak across Australia.

Different viral strains of the flu occur each year. It is important to receive an annual flu vaccine to ensure the best protection against current strains. Around 91,000 Territorians had the flu vaccine in 2022.

In addition, eligible Territorians can now get the bivalent BA.4-5 COVID-19 vaccine as a booster dose.

The bivalent BA. 4-5 COVID-19 vaccine provides protection against recent strains of COVID-19, and can be taken at the same time as the flu vaccine.
