Flying start to Tassie’s Off Season

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Tourism

As we mark the first day of winter, Tourism Tasmania is partnering with Virgin Australia (VA) to encourage travellers across the country to refuel their soul and book a winter holiday in Tasmania.

Winter is Tasmania’s best kept secret and Tourism Tasmania’s Off Season campaign has been successful in positioning Tasmania as a ‘must-do’ winter experience – driving visitation over the traditionally quieter period and supporting the continued recovery of Tasmania’s tourism industry.

VA will promote our Off Season campaign both in the air and across its online channels throughout the next three months, launching today with a special Black Tie in the Sky flight.

Tourism Tasmania’s partnership with VA will amplify Off Season messages and provide valuable engagement and connection with VA’s audience through its marketing channels together with a special seat sale activity to drive flight bookings and visitors to Tasmania over winter.

To help promote the Off Season, VA has engaged active streetwear brand P.E Nation to create a limited edition special version of the ‘Tassie Tuxedo’.

The ubiquitous black puffer jacket has long been associated with Tasmania, largely due to its popularity with locals throughout the winter months to enable them to embrace the cold and all that Tasmania has to offer during the winter months.

VA crew will celebrate the Off Season with the new limited edition Tassie Tux available to crew to wear on flights into Tasmania throughout the winter period.

Tasmanian tourism businesses from right around the state have put together a range of creative and inspiring experiences to help visitors embrace the Off Season during their stay, which are listed on a dedicated Off Season marketplace booking platform as part of the campaign website.

Tasmanian tourism is amongst the best in the world, especially throughout winter with our stunning landscapes, and I encourage visitors from across the country to invest in a ‘Tassie Tux’ and see for themselves what Tasmania has to offer.
