FORWARD MOTION – 2022 Melbourne Fringe Festival

Wyndham City is excited to announce a new exhibition Forward Motion will run from Thursday 22 September to Saturday 15 October at the Wyndham Cultural Centre from 9am to 6pm every day.

Part of the 2022 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Forward Motion is a collaboration between Wyndham City and Hobsons Bay City artists who are mentored by Curators from Science Gallery Melbourne and Annette Wagner of Wunder Gym, an arts mentoring program.

Cr Marcel Mahfoud, Creative City portfolio holder said: “Participants from across Melbourne’s West have been invited to respond to Future Hindsight – the theme of the 2022 Melbourne Fringe Festival.”

“The Wunder Gym program is designed to encourage, and support individuals own creative practice and develop access to support creative networks and audiences.”

“Wyndham City is proud to be partnering with Hobsons Bay to support artists from our municipalities.”

“The Melbourne Fringe Festival turns 40 this year and has uncovered generations of artists that have created radical and remarkable fringe artwork, giving a voice to those often unheard.”

The 2022 Melbourne Fringe Festival will simultaneously look back to reflect on history and how Melbourne has changed over four decades. It also looks forward, to imagine and a more diverse and vibrant arts sector.

Mentored by Science Gallery Melbourne’s Head of Curatorial, Tilly Boleyn and Artist and Curatorial Assistant Arie Glorie, artists draw reference from the SWARM exhibition that shifts our understanding of science, art and innovation.

SWARM explores the human superorganism, collective movements, bio-communities as Science Gallery and delves into the science and art behind what it means to be part of a pack.

SWARM reflects on the pros and cons of collective behaviour, looking at the human superorganism, collective social movements and behaviours, and bio-communities.

The artworks will be on exhibit at the Wyndham Cultural Centre and selected artworks will be installed at large public art installations located at Laneway Gallery and Altona Civic Centre.
