In a major milestone for the McGowan Government, the first major concrete pour has today taken place at the new Armadale Courthouse and Police Complex.
Once complete, the $85.8 million state-of-the-art facility on Third Road will see Police and Justice staff co-located under one roof.
Police will occupy 5,680 of the 14,000 square metre complex – more than doubling the size of the current police station and allowing room for an additional 150 officers.
Along with general duties officers, detectives, district intelligence, forensic investigation and family violence units will all be housed at the new complex.
There will be five courtrooms compared to the three currently operating at Armadale, along with a shared custody facility consisting of nine cells, compared to the four currently in use.
The project will employ 260 subcontractors and it is estimated that 30 apprentices will be employed during the project construction which is due for completion in October 2021.
As stated by Police Minister Michelle Roberts:
“For all of the years of the Barnett-Harvey Government, the Liberals neglected the south eastern suburbs, in favour of vanity projects in the city and western suburbs.
“We gave the people of Armadale and surrounds a 24/7 police station, and I’m pleased the McGowan Government has now been able to deliver this significant project.
“When it’s complete, the community will only benefit from such a fantastic state-of-the-art facility which will provide improved police response and operational support facilities.”
As stated by Attorney General John Quigley:
“This new facility will provide the people of Armadale and surrounding communities with an exceptional building with first class facilities.
“The courthouse will feature state-of-the-art video conferencing and digital recording facilities, five courtrooms, a pre-trial conference room, plus separate and secure facilities for victims of crime.
“Once completed, it will be an important civic landmark that the people of Armadale and surrounding communities can be proud of.”

“This is great news. The new facility is well timed to fit in with the changes to policing in Armadale and will provide a boost to local employment and business.”
