Works are now complete at Frank Bourke Oval, delivering a new Community Pavilion and a Changeroom Pavilion that directly benefit players and spectators.
With $5 million in funding from the Victorian Government’s Council Support Package, the project provides modern facilities designed to support community sport at all levels. The City of Ballarat has also contributed an additional $130,000 from the Recreation Capital Improvement budget.
The upgraded infrastructure strengthens the Ballarat Major Events Precinct on Creswick Road, supporting its growing capacity while meeting the needs of all users of the reserve, including the North Ballarat Football and Netball Club and the North Ballarat Cricket Club.
The new facilities at Frank Bourke Oval are purpose-built to meet AFL Victoria and Cricket Victoria Facility Guidelines and provide inclusive, accessible facilities that empower local players and teams to thrive now and into the future.
The Frank Bourke Oval upgrade includes:
- Four changerooms with amenities
- Umpire changerooms with amenities
- Social space with meeting room
- Veranda and kitchen amenities
- Storage areas.
City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Tracey Hargreaves, attended the official opening alongside Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison – representing Minister for Rural and Regional Development and Member for Eureka, Michaela Settle – as well as representatives from Frank Bourke Oval sporting users.
Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison described Frank Bourke Oval as a great community asset.
“I am proud to be supporting local clubs with new sporting facilities,” she said.
“This new pavilion will give local players, volunteers and families a first-class home for football and cricket.”
Cr Hargreaves highlighted the importance of the new pavilion facilities for the local sporting community.
“Frank Bourke Oval is an important part of what has become one of regional Victoria’s most significant sporting precincts,” she said.
“These upgraded facilities better support the clubs and volunteers who work so hard to keep community sport thriving. This investment is also strengthening the precinct’s capacity to host a range of state and national sporting events, creating new opportunities for our local athletes, clubs and the wider community.”
