Free Curlewis Street car park set to boost CBD

Car parking will be free in the Curlewis Street car park until the end of January thanks to a deal struck by Swan Hill Rural City Council.

Director of Development and Planning, Heather Green said Council had negotiated a deal with the privately owned car park in Curlewis Street, at the back of the Reject Shop.

“We are delighted to now be able to offer free parking in the Curlewis Street car park, at all times until the end of January for residents and visitors to the region.

The initiative is part of a package developed by Council to encourage people to come to the Swan Hill CBD and support local retailers and hospitality businesses.

Ms Green said Council was successful in receiving $250,000 funding from the Victorian Government through the Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package to make widespread outdoor dining safe, practical and a reality this summer.

“Council is grateful that the Curlewis Street Car Park owners agreed to open their premises to be used free of charge.

“We all know that shopping and dining out locally help communities to grow and thrive and that local support is particularly needed this season to help our businesses recover.

“It is hoped that providing easily accessible parking will contribute to make the Swan Hill CBD a vibrant place this summer,” Ms Green said.

Customers are reminded to enter the carpark from McCallum Street and exit from Curlewis Street.
