Orange City Council is inviting homeowners, real estate professionals and building industry practitioners to participate in a series of free heritage workshops on September 29-30 at Orange Civic Centre.
An initiative of Orange City Council’s Heritage Community Committee, the workshops are designed to provide advice on the management, maintenance and conservation of heritage properties in the Orange local government area.
They have been developed in response to growing community interest in heritage and increasing demand for information about caring for, managing and working on heritage properties. Common questions relate to maintenance and repairs, alterations and additions, approval requirements and the management of heritage buildings.
Heritage Community Committee Chair, Cr Gerald Power, said the workshops were designed to help people access information to confidently navigate heritage requirements, approvals and development processes relating to heritage properties.
“Many of the questions Council receives relate to what owners can and cannot do to heritage properties, how to maintain older buildings, and how heritage requirements apply to development and building works,” Cr Power said.
“These workshops will provide practical guidance and an opportunity for people to ask questions, gain reliable information and make informed decisions about the care and management of heritage properties.”
Participants will also have the opportunity to speak with Council’s planning staff and heritage advisor.

- Heritage Properties: Practical Guidance for Real Estate Professionals
Tuesday 29 September 2026, 4.30pm-6pm
This session will provide practical information about heritage listings, approvals, common misconceptions about heritage properties, maintenance responsibilities and the services available through Council. It is designed to help real estate professionals confidently advise vendors and prospective purchasers.
- Looking After Your Heritage Home
Wednesday 30 September 2026, 10am-2pm
A hands-on workshop for homeowners focusing on the maintenance and repair of heritage buildings. Participants will learn how to identify common issues such as rising damp, deteriorating brickwork and ageing timber windows, and develop practical strategies for ongoing care and conservation.
- Working on Heritage Buildings: Practical Guidance for Building Professionals
Wednesday 30 September 2026, 4.30pm to 6.00pm
A workshop for builders, tradespeople and building professionals covering heritage approvals, exemptions, common pitfalls and best-practice approaches when undertaking work on heritage properties and within Heritage Conservation Areas.
