Free parking at Ophir car park

The Ophir car park, a former paid parking area at the corner of Kite Ste and Lords Place, is now free for parking.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the change is one of the Council’s latest local responses to the COVID-19 crisis.

“We’re continuing to make sure we’re complying with the recommendations of national and state health authorities when it comes to the operation of council facilities,” Cr Reg Kidd said.

FREE PARKING: Parking is now free at the Ophir car park, at the corner of Kite St and Lords Place.

“The latest change has seen the elimination of parking fees at the Ophir Car park at the corner of Kite and Lords Place.

“We were concerned that the pressing of buttons on the paid parking machines in the Ophir Car park could be a potential problem. There was only very limited contact, but anything we can do reduce that risk is worth doing.

“During this time, anything we can do to make it easier for people who are continuing to work is worth considering.

“It will be a free car park for the foreseeable future.

“If people have already paid for a ‘season-ticket’ which gives gives them, cheaper parking, they should contact the council to get a credit for the remaining period of their ticket. It can be used once fees are re-introduced, on the other side of this crisis.”
