Head over to the Northside Library this Friday 26 November from 3pm, wish them a happy 50th birthday, and take a walk down memory lane.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said library goers had already been marking the milestone in some very special ways.

“We have some wonderful, long-time patrons who have been posting their memories on the memory board in the library and also sharing them to our Facebook page,” Cr Wickerson said.

“It has been really heart-warming to see the comments coming through – the photos, the memories and the impact that the library has had on our community throughout the generations.

“We have heard stories of children who grew up visiting the library and now take their own grandchildren!

“The Toy Library was a huge it with families in the eighties and it is great to see it created some wonderful memories.

“The library has also shared some classic images and fun facts that truly are a blast from the past.”

“Throughout this month, library members have gone into the draw to win some fantastic vouchers and this Friday, one lucky entrant will take home four $50 vouchers in the major prize draw.

Councillor Drew Wickerson said following its official opening on Friday 26 November 1971, the Northside Library has been an integral part of the North Rockhampton Community – a place where stories are told, knowledge is gained and information is shared.

“This Friday, its official anniversary, will be a continuation of this,” Cr Wickerson said.

“We have invited Council’s Disaster Management unit along from 3pm on Friday to share their Get Ready information on how to be prepared this disaster season.

“As a member of the SES myself, I have seen firsthand the difference that being prepared can make.

“So come along and check out our disaster trailer, meet some wonderful SES volunteers, play a game of giant snakes and ladders or take part in our emergency kit game, and Get Ready to make your trip to the library even more fun and informative!”
