The FRINGE WORLD Festival is back even bigger and better in 2020, with the State Government funding $1.3 million, through Lotterywest, Tourism Western Australia and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, to support the event.
Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman officially opened the 2020 Festival at Northbridge venue The Ice Cream Factory, unveiling an exciting program of arts and cultural experiences for Western Australians of all ages.
The State Government’s contribution will support the local artistic community and has resulted in six new Western Australian shows premiering at Girls School through the ‘FRINGE WORLD R&D Supported by Lotterywest’ program.
Since 1994, Lotterywest has funded more than $8.7 million to Artrage, which runs the FRINGE WORLD Festival.
Last year 3,574 performers participated in FRINGE, 74 per cent of which were local Western Australian artists.
In 2020, the Festival will feature more than 700 events at more than 150 venues across the Perth metropolitan area from Cockburn to Joondalup, and Scarborough to Kalamunda.
Regionally, FRINGE will visit Mandurah, Margaret River, Katanning, Merredin, Esperance and Kalgoorlie.
A free CAT bus service will run every 15 minutes between the Perth Busport and the Girls School festival venue, while a host of other Transperth services are available to get patrons to other venues.
FRINGE WORLD is the largest annual festival in Western Australia and the third largest Fringe Festival in the world.
Last year more than $12 million was spent at the FRINGE box office and more than 850,000 attendances were recorded at free and ticketed events.

“It’s enjoyed annually by hundreds of thousands of locals and visitors alike, bringing our city to life, stimulating the local economy and supporting local jobs.
“This year’s State Government contribution will help support the festival and the participation of more Western Australian artists.
“More public transport options are also available to make visits easier, with a free CAT bus stopping every 15 minutes from Perth Busport to the Girls School festival location.
“I encourage all Western Australians to visit one of the hundreds of FRINGE WORLD shows and enjoy a night out, supporting local WA artists and businesses.”
