The Minns Labor Government has today revealed plans for a vibrant new green space on Sydney’s lower north shore for the community to relax, play and connect with nature in Cammeray.
The land, which is currently being used as a construction site for the Western Harbour Tunnel project, will be transformed into the new Cammeray Parklands after construction is complete.
The Minns Labor Government has released the draft design for the new Cammeray Parklands, giving the community the opportunity to help shape the future of the site, which sits between the Warringah Freeway and Cammeray Golf Course.
Plans for the new parklands include:
- Large open lawns
- Native Australian gardens
- Accessible shared paths, linking existing active transport routes including the upgraded Ernest Street Bridge
- A multi-use half court suitable for basketball and pickleball
- A small synthetic turf sports area
- An outdoor fitness station
Work on the parklands will commence once the land is no longer required for construction of the Western Harbour Tunnel, which is due to open to traffic in 2028.
Once open, North Sydney Council will manage and maintain the parklands.
Community feedback gathered throughout the planning and delivery of the Western Harbour Tunnel has helped inform the draft Place, Design and Landscape Plan, which has been further developed in close consultation with North Sydney Council.
The draft Cammeray Parklands Place, Design and Landscape Plan will be on public exhibition from Monday 24 August (TBC) to Sunday 11 September (TBC) 2026.

“We want locals to take a look, tell us what they think and help us get the design right.
“This is another example of the Minns Labor Government delivering the infrastructure Sydney needs while investing in better public spaces for local communities.”
