After several months without any detections, unfortunately a single Queensland fruit fly was recently detected in the Ridleyton suspension area, resulting in the extension of fruit movement restrictions in the area to 22 February 2022.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) will continue its program to get rid of fruit fly and urges residents to continue to follow restrictions on the movement of fruit and vegetables until the outbreak has ended.
Now is the most important time to follow Queensland fruit fly restrictions as fruit flies are more active in the warmer months.
Please remember to:
- Keep fruit on your property – don’t share, sell or give it away
- Cook your fruit so you can move it – find helpful ideas on the fruit fly website
- Pick fruit and vegetables as soon as they ripen
- Collect fallen fruit – put any unwanted fruit in your green kerbside bins
- Check fruit for blemishes or maggots
- Call the Fruit Fly Hotline on 1300 666 010 if you suspect fruit fly and seal it in a plastic bag
