Fund continues to support local sports people

The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund has provided two donations this month continuing its support for local sports people competing at state level or higher.

Member organisation Mount Gambier and District Junior Cricket Association was provided a donation to assist promising young cricketer Hamish Case. Hamish has been selected to play in the South Australian team competing at the Cricket Australia Under 15 National Championships being held in Ballarat this week.

14 year old Hamish has been playing cricket for six years and has made frequent trips to Adelaide in recent weeks to train for the event with the donation assisting to offset some of the costs involved with travel and equipment.

“I was lucky enough to receive money from the Junior Sports Assistance Fund to help me get to the carnival when I made the under 12 team and I know this has helped me to make the under 15 team,” Hamish said.

I am looking forward to being very competitive and playing to the best of my ability at the event.

The Lower South East Hockey Association received a donation to assist 16 year old Zara Blackwell to compete in the under 18 South Australian team at the Australian Hockey Championships to be held in Launceston in April 2020.

Having also frequented Adelaide for training recently Zara is looking forward to further developing her skills at the upcoming tournament.

“I am most looking forward to being able to play a high level and compete with my team to be the best I can be,” Zara said.

“This donation has helped me to work towards my goals by providing financial aid to assist with travel, equipment, uniform and tournament costs.”

The fund is a joint initiative of the City of Mount Gambier, the District Council of Grant and local affiliated sporting organisations. Click here
