Applications are now open for Round 1 of the Community Support Fund and Aboriginal Projects Fund, helping local organisations deliver projects that connect people, strengthen communities and celebrate Worimi culture.
The funding gives local organisations, schools, businesses and community groups the opportunity to deliver projects that improve community wellbeing and celebrate Aboriginal culture across Port Stephens.
The two funding streams form part of Council’s annual Community Funding Program, supporting initiatives that create lasting social, cultural and community outcomes across the region.
Port Stephens Mayor Leah Anderson said the funding recognises the important role local organisations and Aboriginal communities play in building a connected and inclusive Port Stephens.
“Strong communities are built by local people who are passionate about making a difference, and these funding programs help turn great ideas into meaningful action,” Mayor Anderson said.
“From supporting community wellbeing and creating connections, to celebrating the rich culture, stories and traditions of the Worimi people, these projects strengthen our community and leave a lasting legacy,” Mayor Anderson added.
The Community Support Fund provides $70,000 each year across two funding rounds, with grants of up to $6,000 available for projects that respond to local needs and improve community wellbeing. Eligible not-for-profit organisations, charities, schools and community groups operating in or servicing Port Stephens are encouraged to apply.
The Aboriginal Projects Fund has proudly operated since 2002. It is guided by Council’s Aboriginal Strategic Committee, and provides $40,000 each year across two funding rounds, with grants of up to $6,000 available for eligible Aboriginal-led projects across the arts, creative industries, education, events and community initiatives.
“Every project funded through these programs contributes to a stronger, more connected Port Stephens,” Mayor Anderson added.
“By supporting community organisations and Aboriginal-led initiatives, we’re investing in projects that bring people together, strengthen cultural understanding, build resilience and create positive outcomes that benefit our whole community,” Mayor Anderson added.
Round 1 applications for both funding programs are open now and close Tuesday 1 September 2026. A second funding round will open from 1 February to 1 March 2027.
