Funding available for Monaro containment line rehabilitation

Containment lines and fire breaks were put in across vast areas of the Snowy Monaro landscape during the 2019/2020 bushfire response and while some of these areas have recovered well, others remain highly disturbed sites.

Many of these areas are relied upon by livestock for grazing and the disturbance to the pasture and soil has left these sites open to weed incursion and reduced pasture growth.

To assist Monaro graziers to restore vegetation on these containment lines, Local Land Services (LLS) is offering land managers small grants of between $500 and up to $3000. This funding is a contribution towards the cost of:

  • targeted chemical/mechanical control of weeds that may have established on the sites
  • re-establishing pastures
  • fertiliser to promote pasture growth and re-establish groundcover.

“This is an opportunity for land managers to access some further assistance to help them recover from one of the most widespread bushfire events our region has experienced” Land Services Officer, Kirrily Gould said.

“This funding can be used by graziers to target weeds in areas where containment lines were put in during the fires and to promote groundcover re-establishment to prevent further issues such as erosion”.

Funding is available for rehabiliation of containment lines in grazing areas

Funding is limited and interested land managers can apply by completing an expression of interest form (available online) or by contacting Land Services Officer, Kirrily Gould at the Cooma LLS office on 6455 7200 or 0429 692 550. Applications close 19 February 2021.
