Foreshore land managers around the Swan and Canning rivers are invited to apply for a share of $1.5 million in funding for projects that rehabilitate and protect the river foreshores.
The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ Riverbank program, with the support of Burswood Park Board, has provided annual funding for a wide range of foreshore restoration and protection activities in the Swan Canning Riverpark for the past 20 years.
This year, with additional support through the State Government’s WA Recovery Plan, Riverbank funding is available for projects that protect or enhance environmental, recreational and cultural values of the Swan and Canning rivers.
Since 2002, the State Government has contributed more than $25.8 million to restoration projects at 338 Riverbank project sites within the Swan Canning Riverpark.
Foreshore land managers match the State Government’s contribution of Riverbank funding, meaning $57 million has been invested into foreshore restoration projects on the Swan and Canning rivers as a result of the Riverbank program.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:
“The Riverbank program was introduced by the Labor Government in 2002 to help protect and restore the river foreshores, and has to date resulted in investment in projects at 338 sites.
“These projects have improved the health of the Swan Canning Riverpark as well as enhanced visitor amenity and allowed more people to enjoy these beautiful waterways.
“Last year’s funding round saw 21 foreshore restoration projects funded including foreshore planning, erosion control, revegetation, weed control, enhanced foreshore and river access, and creating native animal habitats.”
