Funding to encourage more revegetation projects

A new grants stream has been established by Council to support small, community-based revegetation projects.

While Council already has funding agreements in place with several organisations, including Holloways Beach Coastcare Inc, Treeforce Association Inc, and Mulgrave Landcare & Catchment Group Inc, this new grant stream will allow other community groups to apply for grants of up to $20,000 to help fund revegetation projects.

Community groups will also be able to leverage in-kind support from the Council nursery, through the purchasing of native plants to support the delivery of projects in a cost and time effective manner.

The new grant stream will support the Cairns Climate Change Strategy and Coast Coastal Hazard Adaption Strategy through the revegetation of Council managed riparian areas, drains and waterways to filter runoff.

It will also align with the Coastal Hazard Adaptation Strategy by helping to protect, strengthen and restore natural coastal habitats and wetland through revegetation planting.

The new Revegetation of Natural Areas Grant will be incorporated as a part of Council’s Community Grants policy and procedures.
