City of Darwin is helping researchers, amateur scientists, businesses and community groups kick start their sustainability projects by providing grants of between $5000 and $50,000.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the Environment and Climate Change Grants aimed to support local projects that deliver positive environmental outcomes for Darwin.
“Whether your initiative will green our suburbs, improve recycling rates, increase biodiversity in our parks and reserves, or reduce emissions, we want to support projects that share our goal for a cool, green and clean city,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“City of Darwin declared a climate emergency in 2018, and we are committed to reducing the climate impacts in our city,” Mr Vatskalis said.
“We have ambitious targets for Darwin’s environmental performance, including achieving net-zero emissions and reducing the amount of waste going into landfill by 50 per cent by 2023.”
Applications for grants must identify which actions under City of Darwin’s 2030 Climate Emergency Strategy, Greening Darwin Strategy and/or Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy will be addressed.
