Photographic workshops, exhibitions, history education programs and the creation of musical scores are among activities funded by the City of Logan’s latest round of arts funding.
Thirteen creative arts professionals have been awarded $89,047 collectively through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
Funding of up to $8000 is available for artists and arts practitioners for skills development, cultural tourism-creative projects or regional partnerships.
RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said the funding would help the latest group of local artists further develop their projects.
“We look forward to seeing the new artworks, local histories and music performances which will be produced through these grants,” Cr Koranski said.
“Many of the artists are developing works which are bound for the Logan Art Gallery next year for the community to enjoy.”
Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said the Queensland Government was investing $2.08 million through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) in 2021-22, matched with a contribution of approximately $2.3 million from 59 councils across the state.
“RADF is a great example of working together to deliver our COVID-19 economic recovery plan, supporting employment opportunities and creating new arts and cultural experiences in local and regional communities,” Minister Enoch said.
“RADF in 2021-2022 will provide valuable social, health and economic outcomes for regional Queenslanders, and support our Government’s 10-year arts roadmap priorities to strengthen Queensland communities, activate local places, and drive social change across the state.”
This round of successful RADF applicants are:
- Liliane Grace from Mundoolun to research and write a musical to inspire better health in the community.
- August River Band from Springwood and Stafford to record their first studio EP.
- Ewald Ferreira from Springwood to produce, record and market a five-track solo EP including a workshop with City of Logan-based artists.
- Michael Blakemore from Browns Plains to create artworks for a Logan Art Gallery exhibition in March next year.
- Rachael Lee from Rochedale South for a group exhibition Walk Gently with Gillian Richards and Kelly Lindsay at Logan Art Gallery in June to July next year.
- Ross Denver Lavender from Annerley to research and document the history of the BMX freestyle, half pipes and racing track at Beenleigh’s Doug Larsen Park with the assistance of local volunteers.
- Sue Gordon from Shailer Park to travel to Victoria to attend workshops in alternative and traditional photographic techniques.
- Pamela See from Sunnybank to produce an education kit and conduct workshops to help City of Logan residents document their family histories for an exhibition at Logan Art Gallery next year.
- Melody Moko from Edens Landing to record her third album with City of Logan producer Michael Muchow.
- Sha Sarwari from Rochedale South for the creation of new two-dimensional works and an exhibition catalogue reflecting his personal journey as a refugee for an exhibition at Logan Art Gallery next year.
- Tanya Jones from Bethania to create new compositions for the Southern Cross Voices choir and other City of Logan and Brisbane-based musicians to be performed next year.
- Elise Lamb from Park Ridge for a 10-minute short film set in the City of Logan to raise awareness of domestic violence.
- Graham Ritchie from Rochedale South to use the Butterbox Theatre in the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct to record and release new original music and audio-visual assets.
