Further funding sought for Barlow Park upgrade

A contribution of $2.5 million is being sought from the State Government to assist with a $10 million lighting and audio-visual upgrade of Barlow Park.

The application is one of four projects Council will submit for funding to the Queensland Government’s 2022-24 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP).

The Barlow Park upgrades will make the venue more suitable for night-time televised state, national and international sporting events.

Council has also submitted a $5 million funding application to the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund for the Barlow Park upgrades.

If successful with both Federal and State Government submissions, Council’s contribution to the initiative will be $2.5 million.

Council will also seek $678,000 in funding from the LGGSP to help with remediation of sludge lagoons at the Gordonvale Wastewater Treatment Plant, and $458,000 for refurbishment of the Panguna Reservoir.

Council has also applied for a $250,000 grant to help fund the Resource Recovery 2040 Roadmap project, which will develop a strategy to allow Council to meet the Queensland Government’s resource recovery targets for household waste recovery of 70% by 2030, and 90% by 2040.
