A road reconstruction of a 300 metre section of Isabella Street Wingham will be undertaken commencing late May, providing safety improvements for this stretch and a smoother driving surface for motorists.
Tenders are being called for the works between the Dennes and Primrose Street intersections, and are being funded by the NSW Government in association with Council as part of the $100M Road Upgrade package.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said these projects are important to maintain safe roads in our towns.
“Providing safer driving conditions on busy streets in our towns is an important priority,” Mr Bromhead said. “That’s why the NSW Government continues to invest in important projects like this, which will deliver a smoother drive for road users and safer towns for residents.”
The works will include reconstruction of the road pavement, realignment of kerb and gutter and some stormwater pipe installation.
The overall road width will be reduced, allowing kerb and guttering and drainage to be installed and existing gutter bridges removed. This will result in a widening of nature strips along both sides of the street.
Works are anticipated to begin in late May, and may continue for up to four months in several stages.
“We will work with the successful tenderer to develop a plan to minimise inconvenience to residents and businesses affected by the works,” said Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services, Rob Scott.
Detailed advice on traffic control on the site during works will be provided to affected properties directly and the wider community will be advised prior to commencement of works.
This project complements works recently completed on two sections of Primrose Street, from Canget to Isabella Street, and the current works on the McCullagh Lane carpark.
Other works planned as part of the $100M Road Upgrade package will include roadworks associated with the Wingham CBD masterplan such as the Isabella Street beautification and the Farquhar and Bent Streets intersection improvements.
