The Albanese Government has committed almost $7.5 million to address road safety at 12 locations under the South Australian 2026-27 Black Spot Program funding round.
Projects funded in this round include:
- Nearly $3 million to install sealed shoulders, edge lines and other road safety treatments on Ashbourne Road in Ashbourne and Strathalbyn.
- More than $2.1 million to install road safety barriers and edge lines and widen shoulders along Flinders Rangers Way in Blinman.
- $408,000 to install a right turn signal and remove a filter right turn at Hutt Street and Halifax Street intersection in Adelaide.
- $240,000 to install a pedestrian refuge, pedestrian ramps and signage, and upgrade street lighting at Granites Road and Railway Terrace intersection in Tailem Bend.
The projects were recommended by the South Australian Black Spot Consultative Panel. This panel is comprised of local stakeholders who are best placed to ensure nominations of the highest priority and importance to the local community are recommended for approval.
The Black Spot Program provides $150 million annually towards safety measures such as traffic lights, safety barriers, roundabouts and pedestrian crossings at locations where several serious crashes have occurred or are at risk of occurring.
It is a key part of the Albanese Government’s commitment under the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030 to reducing fatalities and serious injuries on our roads.
Anyone can nominate a Black Spot for consideration, including individuals, community groups and local councils.
