Future proofing Waverley District Netball Association

Liberal Party Victoria

To meet the needs of one of Victoria’s biggest sporting associations, a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will commit $6 million towards upgrades across the Waverley District Netball Association precinct in Ashwood.

Despite its size, every weekend thousands of the association’s 6,000 active players face inadequate facilities, including an unsealed and undersized carpark, too few spectator shelters, a lack of all-weather shelters and a small, substandard club room with dysfunctional toilets and changerooms.

The commitment from the Liberals and Nationals will deliver a future proof masterplan developed for the precinct, which will plan for:

  • Construction of spectator shelters;
  • Sealing of the carpark, with provision for disabled parking;
  • Construction of all-weather shelters across four courts;
  • A children’s playground, shade sails, retaining walls and site landscaping;
  • A new club house with dedicated kitchen, function room, storage space and training facilities; and
  • An expanded toilet block with more cubicles.

Shadow Minister for Sport, Cindy McLeish said the association is having to put up with sub-standard facilities every weekend.

“As one of the state’s biggest sporting associations, and with significant growth in participation after Covid, they need to be supported with the very best, fit for purpose facilities, and only the Liberals and Nationals will commit to delivering them.”

“Importantly, the association brings the community together from across the region, and their sport plays a big role in improving the health and wellbeing of players.”

Liberal Candidate for Ashwood, Asher Judah, said the modernisation of the Waverley District Netball Centre is a long overdue investment in local women’s sport and the Ashwood community.”

“Our investment will ensure that netballers of all ages can play, train, and compete at a world-class sports facility in their community.”

“Importantly, our investment will ensure the Waverley District Netball Association can meet growing demand for Waverley’s most popular sport.”
