It has been a long while since the Slim Dusty Centre welcomed people inside but the team at the iconic Kempsey venue are ready to say “G’day” again from the beginning of December.

Visitors and residents can mark 1 December in their calendars as the big date for the Centre, with new owners Kempsey Shire Council flinging open the doors to the museum, café and gift shop in time for the holidays.

Council resolved to accept ownership and management of the Centre earlier this year and are in the final stages of negotiations with the Slim Dusty Foundation.

Kempsey Shire Council Director of Corporate and Commercial, Stephen Mitchell, said the centre opening its doors again to the public is an exciting time for the community, tourists and Council as well.

“The Centre is a major tourism drawcard for the Macleay Valley featuring the famous and much-loved Slim Dusty Museum and other exhibits. Council are pleased to take possession of this important cultural and tourism location that fills a gap in facilities for our community,” said Mr Mitchell.

“It is great to finally be able to welcome visitors and residents back to the Centre and Kempsey as a whole, as we love showcasing the beauty, heritage and culture of the shire.”

Housing an array of services such as a retail shop, café, the Slim Dusty Museum and the Nulla Nulla Art Gallery, the Slim Dusty Centre also serves as a commercial venue hire facility available for business meetings, conferences, community events and other private functions.

The Centre will fully reopen from Wednesday 1 December with opening hours Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm, Sunday between 10am and 2pm and closed on Mondays and public holidays.
