Gale force winds to hit South Coast, Illawarra and Sydney

Gale force winds with gusts over 90 km/h are expected to hit parts of the South Coast, Illawarra and Sydney today, bringing down trees, damaging roofs and causing extra damage in areas that have already been burnt by bush fires, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Winds could sweep across parts of the South Coast, Illawarra and Sydney from 5pm this afternoon, gradually easing around 3-4am tomorrow morning. Kiama, Huskisson, Jervis Bay and Ulladulla could all be affected, with the BOM expecting most of the strong wind to hit around 8pm tonight.

Even parts of the Sydney coast are in the firing line with sustained winds around 65 km/h possible close to the airport.

The NSW State Emergency Service is asking people to please be careful if they’re on the roads today. Watch out for fallen trees and branches, park your car undercover and away from trees and for emergency help in storms call the NSW SES on 132 500.
