It’s fast, it’s fierce and it’s fiery. Footy fever has reached the Territory, with the world-class Hottest 7s competition kicking off this weekend featuring teams from around the world.

Celebrating its 34th anniversary in 2023 with a total prize pool of $40,000 up for grabs, the Hottest 7s offers an electrifying competition of hard hits, furious pace and tough tackles, as teams battle it out across nine divisions from Saturday, 7 October to Sunday, 8 October.

Juniors and seniors will be up for the two-day challenge with women’s and girl’s teams equalling the number of men’s and boy’s, plus an Under 12s mixed team.

Since its inception in 1989 as the Territory 7s, Northern Territory Rugby’s showcase event has become Australia’s premier 7’s tournament, hosting local, national and international players.

This event is supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company.

Spectator entry is $25 for the weekend, $10 for Saturday and $20 for Sunday. Those aged 17 and under can attend for free. Tickets are available at the gate. Visit here for more details.

“The Hottest 7s is an excellent sporting and spectator experience, and puts a spotlight on Darwin, providing important exposure and economic benefits to the Territory outside the traditional busy season.

“This fantastic event goes from strength to strength each year, attracting great interest from local, interstate and international rugby players and fans.

“I wish all the teams involved the best of luck and encourage Territorians and visitors to get down to Marrara for a weekend of rugby excellence and sporting camaraderie.”

Quotes from NT Rugby CEO Nathan McDonald:

“We’re expecting the brightest and best rugby talent to battle it out for our Hottest 7s ever. This event is an important opportunity for local and visiting teams from around the world to showcase their skills.

“The Hottest 7s also continues to boost the profile of the women’s competition, with women competing in the tournament since 2007. With the Matildas changing attitudes about women’s sport on the national and international stage, we’re proud to continue nurturing and promoting our women’s competition.

“Don’t miss the opportunity to witness some of the finest rugby talent in action as they compete for glory in the heart of Darwin.”
