Gavin Orr statement

The National Rugby League Appeals Committee has upheld the NRL’s decision to cancel the accreditation of player agent Gavin Orr.

Mr Orr’s accreditation has been formally cancelled with effect from 7 April 2020.

The Committee, chaired by the Honourable Ian Callinan AC QC with panellists Michael Cleary AO and Max Krilich, described his conduct as a serious contravention of the relevant rules.

The Committee determined that NRL Chief Executive Officer Todd Greenberg was entitled on the evidence before him to conclude that:

  • Mr Orr, in breach of his obligations under the NRL Accredited Agent Rules, had knowingly been involved in the payment of amounts to one of his players which were not disclosed to the NRL Salary Cap Auditor;
  • Mr Orr’s actions in doing so were deliberate and done with knowledge of the seriousness of the breach; and
  • the cancellation of Mr Orr’s accreditation as a result of those actions was an appropriate response.

The Committee dismissed Mr Orr’s appeal.
