Geelong City LED lighting and smart control technology upgrade

So far, the City has worked with energy distribution company Powercor to replace about 15,000 residential lights with LEDs. The rollout of this latest phase (Phase 3 – metered decorative lights) will include the replacement of 2,012 existing streetlights with new LED luminaires.

The rollout is the third stage of an overall project that will result in converting all of Greater Geelong’s 25,000-plus street lights to LED.

The LED luminaires, including new smart PE cells, are about 85 per cent more energy efficient than the existing mercury vapour lights.

They provide higher quality and better directed lighting, with a greater spread across and along the street.

The new LED lights include a smart control device which will be connected to a new wireless network. This will enable remote control adjustment of the lighting output and create a platform for additional Smart City infrastructure to be added.

Mayor Trent Sullivan:

The LED lighting is energy-efficient, long-lasting, and versatile. Lighting can be tailored to specific needs and controlled remotely or automatically for increased efficiency and convenience.

It wonderful to see technologies continue to evolve, offering new possibilities for lighting design and energy management.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken:

LED lighting is not just a technology; it’s a revolution in the way we light our world, bringing energy efficiency and creative design possibilities to the forefront.
