Georges River Council receives $110K Grant Boost for Peakhurst Park design

Georges River Council

Georges River Council has been successful in obtaining grant funding of $110,000 from the NSW Government as part of the Metropolitan Greenspace Program to contribute towards the Detailed Design of the Peakhurst Park Adventure Play Space Project.

This co-funded project will see Council contribute $110,000 towards the project which is set to design the area’s first off-road bike facility and youth zone.

The Peakhurst Park Spatial Framework, which is currently being finalised, has been developed to guide the future management of this regionally significant open space. In line with the community consultation process, the framework identified an opportunity for a new off-road biking facility and youth zone within the eastern area of the park.

Georges River Council General Manager David Tuxford said, “The Peakhurst Park Adventure Play Space is the first of its kind in our area.

“The popularity of recently upgraded facilities such as Olds Park has shown that there is appetite from young people to enjoy what the Georges River Council local government area has to offer and get out and be active.

“This upgrade reaffirms Council’s commitment to providing facilities for members of our entire community to enjoy,” he said.

The design works are expected to begin in late 2025.

The NSW Metropolitan Greenspace Program helps create liveable places, great neighbourhoods and build sustainable communities, delivering a network of high-quality green space that connects town centres, public transport hubs, and major residential areas. The program commits grant funding to local councils for projects that improve and increase access to regionally significant open space.

This funding will support the NSW Government’s planning reforms to unlock more homes with a network of open spaces that will be significant to their region.
