Get ready to ‘Make Yourself At Home’

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Small Business, Hospitality and Events

From 9am tomorrow, Tasmanians can go online to register for a voucher as part of the Tasmanian Government’s $7.5 million ‘Make Yourself At Home’ tourism travel initiative.

The initiative is providing support for Tasmanian businesses by encouraging Tasmanians to get out and about and experience their home state.

I know it has been challenging, especially for our tourism and hospitality industries, particularly on week days, which is why our voucher model has been built around overnight stays from Sunday to Thursday with visits to attractions and participation in touring experiences able to be undertaken on any day of the week.

Importantly, this initiative will offer a range of affordable accommodation and experiences suitable for individuals and families.

It’s pleasing that local operators like Adina Place Motel Apartments and McDermott’s Coaches have been able to leverage from the ‘Make Yourself At Home’ travel initiative by creating special packages to further incentivise visitation.

Through the voucher system, Tasmanians over the age of 18 can register online or in person at Service Tasmania as a single, couple or family for accommodation and experience vouchers.

Vouchers apply to eligible accommodation and experiences undertaken between 1 September 2020 and 1 December 2020, including the school holiday period.
