Producers in the New England region have been encouraged to consider their plans for pasture recovery and livestock health following recent rain in the area.
NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and North West Local Land Services (LLS) will host a field day on the subject on Tuesday 18 February at Tamworth Agricultural Institute at 9am.
NSW DPI Development Officer, Sarah Baker said the field day will provide landholders with the best advice on how to manage pastures following the recent rain.
“While we have had some rainfall, landholders need to be aware of how pastures can respond and changes in grass pastures,” Ms Baker said.
“Landholders will see on-site research trials of Lucerne and digit grass sowing densities and how the pastures have responded to the rain.”
North West LLS Team Leader Land Services, Dale Kirby said staff will cover topics such as soil water profile, sowing selection and timing, pasture response and management, and possible livestock health impacts of fresh growth.
“There are some important management decisions to be made now and we’re here to assist landholders to get the best out of their pastures and livestock for the future,” Mr Kirby said.
