Getting show on road

We are investing $6 million in our roads this financial year as part of our Annual Roads Resurfacing Program.

We’re committed to improving our roads, walkways, and crossings to make them safer for all members of our community. The program will see 45 roads renewed in 2021-22, coming to approximately 88,000 square metres of pavement requiring 22,000 tonnes of asphalt.

Recycling plays a big role in our road resurfacing. One of the ways we do this is by sending our old asphalt back to the production plant, where it is recycled and incorporated into new pavement which we use across the City.

Another way we contribute to the circular economy is by using recycled crushed glass to pave some of our roads as part of the Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils Paving the Way initiative.

Through this program, we expect to recycle 723 tonnes of glass (or the equivalent of over 3 million glass bottles) from your yellow recycling bin back into local roads per year.

Some of the roads we have recently resurfaced as part of the program are Hilly Street, Mortlake and Barnstaple Road, Five Dock, as well as Argonne and George streets, North Strathfield.
