Gingerbread House Christmas Pop-Up for Albert Street

Installation of a giant Gingerbread House Christmas pop-up on Albert Street, will begin this week.

The converted shipping container will be transformed over the next few weeks as part of the City of Ballarat’s planned sequence of Christmas activities along Sturt Street from the Bridge Mall to the Town Hall and beyond.

The section of Albert Street that runs alongside Parent Place will be closed to traffic from Wednesday, 20 November until Wednesday, 8 January.

Additional interim parking will be provided on Sturt Street for the duration of the event.

The Albert Street Christmas Pop-Up Park will include synthetic grass, lighting and a mulch garden that will lead children to two large windows revealing an animated display.

Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said the Albert Street Christmas Pop-Up would activate and bring additional visitors to the shopping strip at the bottom of Sturt Street.

“The Gingerbread House location will be a perfect half-way retreat for parents and families who delight in visiting the Christmas displays and events along Sturt Street,” he said.

The Gingerbread House will be operational in early December.

The changed traffic conditions include:

  • No access to Albert Street from Sturt Street from Wednesday, 20 November

  • Albert Street on the west side of Parent Place will remain open, allowing traffic to turn left onto Sturt Street

  • Additional interim parking will be available on Sturt Street
