Glen for Women turning lives around

Department of Health

The Glen for Women, a rehabilitation centre on the Central Coast of New South Wales offering holistic addiction treatment for First Nations women, will officially open with a ceremony today.

The Glen for Women provides a minimum 12-week residential program in a culturally safe and supportive environment to help women recover from addiction and build practical life skills.

Located on Darkinjung Country, the 20-bed centre is the first Aboriginal Community Controlled women’s rehabilitation centre in New South Wales.

It offers an abstinence-based program that includes group counselling, purposeful life skills, sports, cooking, personal training, parenting programs, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings, and community work and education.

The Glen for Women also helps clients deal with grief and trauma, relationships, gambling and anger management.

The Australian Government has continued an ongoing partnership with the Glen for Women with a $3.5 million investment to support priorities under the National Drug Strategy.

The official opening coincides with a meeting of the Australian National Advisory Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs.
