Glenferrie Primary School to receive much-needed upgrades

Liberal Party Victoria

Under a Matt Guy lead Liberals and Nationals Government, Glenferrie Primary School will receive $5.5 million to redevelop the learning spaces of its historically significant buildings.

Nearly 150 years old, Glenferrie Primary School is in desperate need of upgrades, with a masterplan developed all the way back in 2014.

Consultation with the school community has identified a need for larger and more flexible classrooms, restoration of the original school ground, the removal of the no longer fit-for-purpose demountable, improvement of building flow and access and reconfiguration of administration spaces.

The funding will deliver redeveloped facilities including priority major works to the main building to update internal layout and create connected, functional and flexible spaces for teaching and learning.

It will also deliver a fully accessible and functional first aid room and four new learning spaces including breakout and collaborative areas catering for enrolment growth.

Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, commended the community’s advocacy in fighting for better facilities for its students.

“A magnificent heritage listed school with a rich multicultural history will soon host modern classrooms and accessible learning spaces for kids to take advantage of into the future.”

“The Liberals and Nationals acknowledge the ongoing struggle kids of all ages experienced during lockdown. Giving them these new fit-for-purpose facilities is a step toward rebuilding the Victorian education system.

Liberal Candidate for Hawthorn, John Pesutto, has worked closely with the School since he and Shadow Education Minister, David Hodgett, met on site with school leaders to discuss their vision on 17 February 2022.

Mr Pesutto said he was proud to be able to announce another school investment for the local community.

“While preserving the heritage of the site, this funding will see the school’s dream come to life, giving its cohort the very best learning spaces.”

“With careful consideration, this commitment will improve connectivity across the school, return outdoor spaces to the students and provide better opportunities for our diverse community now and into the future.”
