Glenn Weir appointed Assistant Commissioner Road Policing

Victoria Police is pleased to announce Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir will be the new head of Road Policing Command.

Assistant Commissioner Weir takes over the role from Libby Murphy, who is leaving Victoria Police after a distinguished career to join Ambulance Victoria.

Assistant Commissioner Weir has served at Victoria Police for more than 40 years.

He has been Assistant Commissioner Eastern Region for the past three years, managing police operations following the 2019-20 summer bushfires and last year’s Eastern Freeway tragedy. More recently he has overseen border operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reducing trauma and the number of lives lost on the roads continues to be a major focus for Victoria Police.

Assistant Commissioner Weir will begin his new role on 23 August.

Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir said:

“I am excited by the challenge and look forward to continuing the good work of Libby Murphy in our focus on reducing road trauma.

“To be able to lead the professional and committed members of the Road Policing Command will be a great honour.

“I look forward to assisting all members of Victoria Police continue to provide safe experiences for people using Victorian roads.

“We are fortunate in Victoria to have some great partnerships in the road safety sector and the opportunity to work with these subject matter experts is something I am keen to embrace.

“I want to have some honest and productive discussions with the public to learn how we can educate, share ideas and develop solutions to limit the road trauma that users are exposed to.”
