Global Citizen NOW: Perth puts Western Australia on the world stage

  • Global Citizen NOW: Perth gets underway today, bringing together government, business, philanthropy, First Nations communities, and the broader community from 18 October to 20 October
  • Summit highlights Western Australia as the State of Energy and its role in the global energy transition
  • New investment and industry opportunities highlighted, including government support for emerging clean energy projects
  • Three-day program concludes with Global Citizen Nights on 20 October

Western Australia will take centre stage at Global Citizen NOW: Perth, bringing together global leaders, investors, business executives, researchers, and community representatives to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the world’s energy future.

Once regarded as one of the world’s most isolated cities, Perth now sits at the heart of the dynamic Indo-Pacific region, connected to economies seeking practical solutions to decarbonisation, energy security, and sustainable economic growth.

Global Citizen NOW: Perth began with an official welcome reception at The University of Western Australia, with Premier Roger Cook and the Lord Mayor of Perth Bruce Reynolds delivering opening remarks.

Today, the main summit program brought together leaders from government, business, philanthropy, First Nations communities, and civil society to drive progress towards greater electrification, renewable energy, and clean industry development across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

The summit is exploring how governments and industry can work together to mobilise capital, grow new industries, and create quality jobs while ensuring the benefits of the global energy transition are shared broadly across communities.

As the State of Energy, WA is uniquely positioned to contribute to these discussions.

The State already powers economies across the region through its resources, expertise and industrial capability, while increasingly investing in the technologies and industries that will underpin a lower-emissions future.

That opportunity is already translating into new investment on the ground, as detailed in the Western Australian Investment Prospectus released at the summit.

Global Citizen NOW: Perth concludes with Global Citizen Nights at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday evening.

The free, ticketed event will feature performances from The Teskey Brothers, South Summit, and Ruby Rodgers, alongside music, culture, and storytelling celebrating the people and communities helping shape a stronger energy future.

The State Government is the presenting partner of Global Citizen NOW: Perth.

The summit offers an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships, attract investment, and highlight Western Australia’s capabilities to a global audience.

Comments attributed to Premier and Tourism, Trade and Investment Minister Roger Cook:

“Twenty years ago, the idea of world leaders gathering in Perth to discuss the future of energy and economic development would have seemed unlikely.

“Today, Perth sits at the centre of one of the most dynamic regions in the world, and the conversations taking place here matter not just for Western Australia, but for our region and beyond.

“Global Citizen NOW is bringing together the people who can turn shared challenges into investment and action.

“It is an opportunity to highlight WA as the State of Energy and show how we are helping drive the global energy transition while creating jobs and opportunities at home.

“WA has built its prosperity by taking on big challenges.

“The next challenge is ensuring we capture the opportunities that come with the transition to a lower-emissions future and continue building the industries that will power our economy for decades to come.

“Global Citizen NOW is about bringing people together, forging partnerships, and making sure WA continues to play a leading role in powering growth and helping power the world’s transition.”
