Global Logistics Giant To Expand Operations In Victoria

VIC Premier

A global logistics company is investing $147 million to expand its Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne’s west and bolster Victoria’s food storage capacity, with critical support provided by the Victorian Government.

Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Martin Pakula today announced that NewCold Australia would more than double the size of its state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Truganina, boosting storage capacity at the site to 225,000 pallets and creating up to 50 new jobs. Some 200 jobs will be created during construction.

Stage one of the upgrade is underway and will expand NewCold’s multi-temperature and freezer warehouse with advanced features to store chilled and frozen goods.

Already boasting one of the world’s largest automated high-bay warehouses, the western suburbs facility will use the latest energy-efficient storage, cooling and distribution technology to automatically move and store products and ensure they are kept in optimal conditions.

The expanded facility, scheduled to be operational in 2022, will provide innovative storage solutions to NewCold’s global food supply chain customers including Simplot, which supplies products to Australia’s leading supermarkets.

NewCold, headquartered in the Netherlands and employing 1,500 staff across three continents, is a global leader in cold storage logistics, specialising in temperature-controlled warehousing and distribution.

With a strong reputation in Europe and the United Kingdom, NewCold’s Melbourne expansion will help to grow the company’s footprint in the Asia Pacific region.

The project will enhance Victoria’s position as a market of choice for investment in the food and fibre, transport, distribution and logistics industries.
