Global Peace Torch coming to Melbourne

Melburnians will have the opportunity to join the likes of Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and Queen Elizabeth II in holding the global Peace Torch when it arrives at Federation Square on Friday 1st March.

Along with world leaders, the torch has been held by elite athletes such as Muhammad Ali and renowned musicians and actors. It has summited Mt Everest, travelled to space and visited all seven continents as well as tiny island nations.

The torch is part of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home global Peace Run relay in which more than seven million people in over 150 countries have participated. This year in a continuous relay it is linking the 44 countries of the southern hemisphere.

The Peace Run torch relay connects the hopes, dreams and promises of millions of people and shows how coming together is crucial to solving and transforming our common global challenges.

According to Peace Run founder Sri Chinmoy who dedicated his life to advancing the ideals of world friendship and oneness: “How can we have peace? Not by talking about peace, but by walking along the road of peace”.

Head down to Federation Square between 12.15 and 1.15pm this Friday to show that there is far more that unites us than divides us as a global community.

The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run began in 1987. The founder Sri Chinmoy (1931-2007) was an athlete, philosopher, poet, artist, musician and advocate for world peace through the connection of all peoples in our global community.
