Rugby Australia has begun its global search for a Women’s Rugby High Performance Manager after successfully securing additional investment from World Rugby as part of their Accelerate program.

Rugby Australia was the first Union to partner with World Rugby on Accelerate, a new framework for growth and targeted investment that will supercharge the development of Women’s Rugby on and off the field.

Involving key personnel from Rugby Australia, World Rugby and other select stakeholders, a focal point was the journey towards professionalism, with the consensus view that a holistic approach to the development of high performance Women’s Rugby is required.

There was unanimous agreement that investment into the systems and support structures to ensure quality high performance environments, plus quality competitions (domestically and internationally) was crucial alongside player remuneration.

Rugby Australia are looking to recruit a highly capable individual to lead this important area. They will lead women’s high performance Rugby in Australia and be integral to the improvement of performance standards across players and high performance staff throughout the system. With a renewed focus on the Wallaroos and their journey to a home Rugby World Cup in 2029, this new role will be central to the team’s success.

Rugby Australia CEO Andy Marinos praised the partnership between the two organisations.

“Working with World Rugby on Accelerate was incredibly beneficial and strategically a key project for us to be actively engaged with as we press ahead with our plans to professionalise the Women’s game.

“This collaboration has enabled us to develop and map out our plans for Women’s Rugby as part of our Golden Decade in Australia.

“Part of this project has been the realisation of performance investment from World Rugby into the program that will now enable us to continue our own investment into Women’s Rugby.

“We are delighted to receive this funding from World Rugby as part of this and thank them for their support on our journey.

“Our next key task is the recruitment of a Women’s Rugby High Performance Manager. It’s an exciting and crucial role for us and this person must be an impactful leader that inspires and drives change”.
