Gold Coast steps up for Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day 2022

City of Gold Coast is calling on local businesses, schools and residents to register a site for this year’s Clean Up Australia Day.

“We are calling on Gold Coasters to step up for Clean Up Australia Day,” said Mayor Tom Tate.

“If you are part of a business this is the perfect opportunity for you and your team to come together and engage with the local community and the environment.

“The event gives us all a chance to raise awareness of the harmful effects of litter and littering in our community and to show pride in this beautiful city we live and work.”

There will be three separate events held with registrations closing on Sunday 23 February.

Clean Up Australia Day dates:

Business Clean Up – Tuesday, 1 March

School Clean Up – Friday, 4 March

Community Clean Up – Sunday, 6 March

The Gold Coast has supported Clean Up Australia Day for nearly 30 years with financial and in-kind support, including staff and trucks to collect the litter for safe disposal at landfill or for recycling.

Over that time there have been more than 3,000 registered sites and an estimate of 5,000 tonnes of rubbish collected.

Last year, Gold Coasters broke a record with 148 sites registered and approximately 326 tonnes of waste collected.

Over 4,500 volunteers participated in the event to remove illegally dumped items at businesses, schools, parks, beach fronts, roadside, car parks and waterways.
