Held each year in October, in memory of Daniel Morcombe, Day for Daniel encourages schools, early learning services, workplaces and communities across the country to take action by promoting child safety education and awareness.
This year’s event will be held on Friday 30 October 2026, with Australians encouraged to wear red, educate and donate in support of child safety.
Day for Daniel is a National Day of Action that empowers children and young people to recognise, react and report when they feel unsafe. It provides an opportunity for parents, carers, educators and communities to start important conversations about personal safety and help build safer environments for children.
The day is also supported by Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson, a curriculum-aligned and evidence-informed educational resource available to schools, early learning services, outside school hours care services and workplaces. The program provides practical child safety education resources that can be accessed live or on demand.
How to get involved
- Wear red on Friday 30 October and encourage friends, colleagues, students, families and community members to do the same.
- Host a red-themed event, such as a morning tea, fundraising activity or school event to raise awareness of child safety.
- Educate by accessing Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson and other free educational resources.
- Start conversations with children and young people about personal safety and what to do if they feel unsafe.
- Donate to support the ongoing development of child safety education resources and support services.
By taking part in Day for Daniel, Australians can play an important role in promoting child safety awareness and helping children and young people build the skills and confidence to stay safe.
