Golden Plains Wind Farm and Energy Locals Join Forces to Empower Local Residents with Renewable Energy Benefits

Energy Locals

Golden Plains Wind Farm, Australia’s largest wind farm project, is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Energy Locals, a leading cleaner energy company. This collaboration aims to provide eligible residents within a 3km radius of the wind turbines with financial savings and environmental advantages on their electricity bills through the innovative Community Energy Program. Regional communities hosting new renewable energy projects often ask if the development will provide cheaper clean power to their home and now it can.

The Community Energy Program, a Golden Plains Wind Farm initiative, together with Energy Locals, offers registered and habitable dwellings within the designated radius the opportunity to offset a significant portion of their electricity costs. Eligible residents can enjoy up to $1600 per annum in credits, equivalent to the annual usage of an average Victorian home, by switching to Energy Locals.

“As leaders in clean energy, we are committed to making renewable energy accessible and beneficial for our local community,” said Mark Bruty, spokesperson for Golden Plains Wind Farm. “Teaming up with Energy Locals allows us to extend the benefits of our wind farm directly to eligible residents, empowering them to embrace sustainable living while enjoying financial savings.”

Golden Plains Wind Farm, situated in the Shire of Golden Plains approximately 60 km northwest of Geelong, is a state-significant project that will feature 215 turbines with a capacity of approximately 6.2MW each. Once fully operational, the wind farm is projected to generate over 4,000 GWh per annum of electricity, powering more than 750,000 homes and preventing over 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

“Energy Locals is excited to partner with Golden Plains Wind Farm and provide eligible residents with the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint and save on their electricity bills, we are thrilled to be at the forefront of community benefit sharing innovation for the renewables sector.” said Luke Melisi, CCO for Energy Locals. “Through the Community Energy Program, residents can embrace renewable energy developments with ease, knowing that they are contributing to a cleaner and greener future.”

To participate in the Community Energy Program and start enjoying the benefits, eligible residents need to switch to Energy Locals as their electricity provider. In addition to financial savings, participants also have the option to receive a complimentary energy audit, providing tailored recommendations to reduce energy consumption and optimise performance.
