Good Things – Annie Higgins brings sunshine to your ears

Underfoot Records

Good Things video will be released on July 9th. It is the second single from the new Album “Wise Woman” and is a heart filled uplifting song that acts as a reminder to cherish the blessings in our lives in the midst of hardship and chaos. Filmed on location on iPhone 6 in the middle of lock down, before Annie and her family were scheduled to move to London, the video is a love song to Newcastle and the simple pleasures that the Hunter region offers. The folk at Underfoot Records would love your professional feedback on this release in the form of a short review, and if you publish it, even better!

Annie Higgins and Luke Gerber from Sydney band Mel Blue, current darlings of the Sydney music scene, met up to write and produce an honest acoustic groove vibe that is quintessentially Australian and peppered with funk, soul and jazz influences. Higgins and Gerber brought together a selection of talented musicians including Jeff De Araujo (Sarah Blasko’s band) on drums and percussion, Sean Venezuala (Little Archer Beats) on keys, Nathan and Jacob Parks (Hot Potato Band) on Trombone, Saxophone and flute, Jesse Tachibana (Thunderfox) on Trumpet.

Produced and engineered by Mic. Hardwick at Underfoot Studios. The musical collaborations have woven magical threads that catch the soul with delicate hooks and emotive cross rhythms that combine to create Annie’s unique sound.

Good Things, like her previous release, showcases the timbre of Annie’s voice and the depth of her feeling body, which are written strongly across her work. Woman, mother, and lover, her music and passions are resoundingly spirited and heartfelt and there’s a cheekiness in her delivery and turn of phrase, an underlying playfulness and purity of tone and meter that delights the ear. Listeners have commented that her voice has the power to transport you to another time and place, in this case Good Things has chilled beach vibes, inspiring memories of friendship, easy laughter, and warm breezes. Higgins’, vocal style is relaxed warm and she has previously been compared to Eva Cassidy, Sheryl Crow and Dido.
