Government dismisses problems with Home Builder grants

Tasmanian Labor
  • No home builder grants approved
  • Minor changes to the scheme not enough
  • Worst construction result nationwide
  • At the same time as Tasmania has reported the worst construction figures in the country, Michael Ferguson is ignoring ongoing problems with the Home Builder grant scheme.

Shadow Minister for Housing and Construction Jen Butler said while construction work in the state fell by 10-percent in the June quarter, not one Home Builder application has been approved by this government.

“Of 140 applications received, zero have been granted.

“Clearly the scheme is not working as it was intended.

“Minor changes to the eligibility criteria have not helped prospective home builders qualify for the scheme. These issues have been raised in the Parliament – and directly in correspondence from brokers to Peter Gutwein, but they have been ignored.

“Michael Ferguson is not listening to mortgage brokers and banks who say the changes have not worked.

“When will Michael Ferguson and Peter Gutwein step up and fix the problems?”
