You have to wonder at times what sort of heartless, incompetent government we have following the admission from Metro and the state government that no consultation was done with the disability sector prior to the cuts to Metro services.
If it hadn’t been for Leon Chick coming forward to speak about his son Aidan’s situation and Labor speaking out it’s clear that Metro and Transport Minister Michael Ferguson wouldn’t have known there was an issue.
The decision to cut services was a careless, cynical PR exercise by Mr Ferguson to enable the government to point to fewer bus cancellations.
Rather than address the root causes of the issue – recruitment and retention – the government took the PR option and as a result has made life even more difficult for those who can least afford it.
I call on Mr Ferguson to detail on how he’ll consult with and communicate the cancelled services to the disability community.
